L & R Rentals, Inc.When L & R Rentals first opened it's door in January of 1977 there was a zoning issue in the City of Nashua NH for car rental companies.  Free-standing car rental companies could only operate in one of the city's industrial areas.  That's why 94 E Hollis St was chosen.  The land is zoned GI (General Industrial), yet it also faces one of the busiest streets in the city.  Today, zoning is not much of an issue, yet there was hardly a thought of moving!  Over the years we purchased additional lots (4 total) and comprise 3/4 of an acre with over 600 foot of frontage on E Hollis St.

Back in 1977 we opened with six brand new American Motors Vehicles (Gremlin, Pacer, Concord).

In 1978 our rooftop sign was proudly displaying the Budget logo.  Gas was .69 cents a gallon - and as you can see from the sign, cigarettes .49 cents a pack (over $5.00 today).  By 1978 we had added Chevrolet to the fleet.

Our building went through several interior transformations, yet none were more dramatic than what we did in the late 80's to the outside.  Wood was "in" and we couldn't resist.  Several years later it went back to white.  Live and learn!

Over the years we expanded by purchasing additional franchise territories in NH and MA, becoming the largest Budget licensee in New England.  In the late 80's we had the largest fleet of Lincoln Town Cars in the State.

Budget One Way Trucks moved into the State and we became master distributers, cheerfully earning a commission on every truck rented by any dealer in our franchised territory.  We purchased land from the railroad that was located behind our building in Nashua  for the express purpose of parking trucks, tow dolly's and car carriers.  It was not uncommon to see 25 - 50 trucks parked at any given time.
